The shift to digital health

The shift to digital health happened sooner than we predicted due to the virus COVID-19 pandemic,

Even as a physiotherapist you need to accept this challenge. We usually work hands-on and provide our patients with exercises in the clinic. Now we must change our routines and inform our patients that 'telework' is the new, convenient added value in rehab.  The Belgian Government is supporting ‘telehealth’ for rehab by making it free-of-charge for patients. A smart decision! The strategy at our practice, and in many other clinics, is to teach people to move well, and then move often. This is one of the basic guidelines for everyone.. To understand movements, we need to record it. If you are not assessing, you are just guessing; another basic guideline.

The Physical Approach needs to change

A purely physical approach to physiotherapy can be resource intensive and requires time for repetitive subjective assessments, manual objective assessment, clinical trial and error, intervention and heavy documentation. It is an inefficient and costly approach, resulting in seeing only a few patients every day and with limited quantitative data to  evidence the results and the quality of care.

The initial effort towards digital health is now paying off in terms of patient flow and improved results.

What we do @ MTC

We have used the 3D digital scan from Qinematic since 2018. We consider ourselves a  clinic.

We invite patients to our facility to undergo a movement scan  and analysis. The biomechanics summary is sent electronically, enabling  therapists to see a performance and give advice during a video consultation.

It is really important that our patient understand the why?what?when? of their movements in daily life. Only then is it motivating for them to move.

This is the perfect start for exercise selection,  to help them at home. We progress the exercises when they eventually visit the clinic. The scans help us to guide our hands-on approach and specific rehab programs.

Let’s get digital but stay physical!
